Numerous road construction projects could disrupt commuter traffic this week

ITHACA, NY — Several road construction projects are beginning or ending in the City of Ithaca this week, which could cause some disruptions to the daily commute in and out of downtown.

Paving and milling work has been taking place on East Seneca Street, North Quarry Street, Ithaca Road and Mitchell Street since Monday morning. No official detours will be in place for the work being done this week.

700-800 block of East Seneca Street

The East Seneca Street project is scheduled for July 15-19 and includes the closure of the 700-800 block of East Seneca Street – the section of road between the intersections of Stewart Avenue and Eddy Street.

The city said delays are expected in the area and advised motorists to avoid the route if possible. Pedestrian walkways will remain available during construction.

100 block of North Quarry Street

The 100 block of North Quarry Street will be closed to cars from July 15-19 for milling and paving work, similar to the 700-800 block of East Seneca Street.

The affected section of North Quarry Street is between the intersections of East State Street and East Seneca Street. The sidewalks will be open and usable for pedestrians, but only emergency personnel will be allowed onto the street during the actual paving work.

100-300 block of Ithaca Road

The 100-300 block of Ithaca Road will be reduced to one lane through Wednesday, July 17, due to work that began last week. The affected section of road is between Mitchell Street and the Five Corners intersection, where Dryden Road, Cornell Street, Maple Avenue, Oak Avenue and Route 366 meet.

There will be flags and signs in the area and sidewalk access will be maintained. The city said minor delays are expected.

100-300 block of Mitchell Street

The 100-300 block of Mitchell Street will also be reduced to one lane through Wednesday, July 17, as milling operations will be conducted from the intersection of Mitchell Street and East State Street to the intersection of Delaware Avenue.

Access to sidewalks will be maintained and flag carriers will be placed in the area to indicate where work is being done.
