Michael Maliakel, who made his Broadway debut in the title role of Aladdinis currently starring in another Disney musical, the Muny production of The little mermaid.

Maliakel plays Prince Eric in the family-friendly production, which opened July 8 and runs through July 16 at the James S. McDonnell Stage in Forest Park, Missouri. Watch the actor’s performance of “Her Voice” in the video above.

Directed by John Tartaglia, with choreography by Patrick O’Neill and music direction by Annbritt duChateau, the cast also includes Savy Jackson as Ariel, Nicole Parker as Ursula, Christopher Sieber as Chef Louis, Ben Davis as King Triton, Fergie L. Philippe as Sebastian, Jen Cody as Scuttle, Kennedy Kanagawa as Flotsam, Adam Fane as Jetsam, Rich Pisarkiewicz as Grimsby and Leia Rhiannon Yogi as Fabius.

The ensemble includes Matt Dean, Bryan Thomas Hunt, Ryan Lambert, Samantha Littleford, Nathaniel Mahone, Daniel Brooks McRath, Ruben Guadalupe Medina-Perez, Michael Milkanin, Georgia Monroe, Sydni Moon, Grace Marie Rusnica, Michael Santomassimo, Gordon Semeatu, Kelly Sheehan, Cecilia Snow, and Meridien Terrell. The company also includes the Muny Kid and Teen Youth Ensemble and the 12 selected participants of the Muny Summer Intensive.

Disney’s The little mermaid has a book by Doug Wright, music by Alan Menken, and lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater. The musical, based on Disney’s 1989 animated film, was previously produced at The Muny in 2011 and 2017. The score includes “Under the Sea,” “Kiss the Girl,” and “Poor Unfortunate Souls.” The Broadway production had 50 previews and 685 regular performances at the Lunt-Fontanne from November 3, 2007, to August 30, 2009.

The production’s creative team also includes associate choreographer Bryan Thomas Hunt, set designer Ann Beyersdorfer, costume designer Robin McGee, lighting designer Jason Lyons, co-sound designers John Shivers and David Patridge, video designer Kate Freer, wig designer Ashley Rae Callahan, puppet designer Eric Wright and production stage manager Sarah Azizo.
