Former school teacher in Cleveland, Tennessee, Jessica Heittehas spent the past three years connecting aspiring singers, musicians and songwriters through Writing Rounds (a songwriting retreat she co-founded during the COVID pandemic to give creatives from around the world the opportunity to meet and collaborate virtually). She gave up her singing career to nurture the musical hopes and dreams of others. Now she’s stepping into the spotlight alone with a new mid-tempo Christian hip-hop song: “Give me Jesus“ (Tyscot Records), now available on all digital music platforms.
“I grew up with the hymn ‘Give Me Jesus’ and have always appreciated its crucial message,” Hitte says of the song, which was produced and programmed by the Writing Rounds co-founder. LeBron Arnwine. “However, every version I heard felt too passive for such a strong and bold statement. After speaking with LeBron about how I felt about it, I went to where I create most often: Instagram Live. In less than two hours, with a handful of followers, a YouTube beat, and my statement of faith… we had the bulk of ‘Give Me Jesus.’ I posted it and LeBron immediately texted me and said he was ready to get to work!”
“The chorus is simple and straightforward for those of us who want to be very clear about who we serve,” Hitte continues. “But I was able to use the verses to get more specific about why I’m committed to this trade (the world for Jesus) and describe who else falls into that category. I always love songs with a vibe that just feels good, but this one is special because it feels good inside and out to sing about the best decision I’ve ever made.”
