Marjorie Taylor Greene attacks transgender people and “illegal aliens”

As one of the first notable speakers on the first evening of the Republican National Convention, Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (Georgia) gave a speech that began gloomily with references to the assassination attempt on Donald Trump, but then quickly turned to her specialty, sensationalist rhetoric.

“For far too long, the establishment in Washington has betrayed us,” Greene said. “They promised unity and brought division. They promised peace and brought war. They promised normalcy and gave us Transgender Visibility Day on Easter Sunday,” Greene said.

Then she added, “And let me be clear: There are only two genders. And we are created in God’s image. Amen.”

She then railed against Democrats, saying they had “torn open our borders and let millions of illegal immigrants into the country, driving up the cost of housing and health care while cutting American wages and eliminating jobs… The Democrats’ economy is made of, by and for illegal immigrants.”

She also criticized Democrats for “spending over $175 million of your tax dollars to secure Ukraine’s borders, but telling us the border wall is too expensive?”

CNN broadcast Greene’s speech, MSNBC and Fox News did not.

Greene began her speech with the shooting at the rally that left Trump injured and one of the attendees, Corey Comperatore, killed. “I thank God that his hand was on President Trump.” She said Comperatore “embodied the spirit of ‘America First.’ He showed the ultimate love. He protected his own wife and daughter and sacrificed his own life.”
