As reported by The Straits TimesIn the July 11 episode of Chinese talk show “Conghe Shuoqi,” Lin spoke about the emotional impact of the harsh criticism he received last year following the release of his latest album, “Happily, Painfully After.”

The singer said the negative feedback had become so overwhelming that he considered leaving social media to protect his mental health, according to Yahoo Life Singapore. He reached an emotional low point as he considered his future in the industry: “Should I continue singing? Should I continue being an artist? Should I release another album? Should I do another concert?”

He also said that the online attacks have raised concerns about how his family perceives him, particularly when news is distorted or he is unfairly criticized.

Although it was challenging for him to distinguish the sincere feedback from his fans from the hurtful remarks of netizens, Lin stressed that he has a strong bond with his fans and therefore finds it difficult to ignore the criticism.

The singer ultimately decided to stay in the industry.

“It was a simple decision: Do I want to continue with this?” he said, summing up his reasons succinctly. “If I want to do this, I have to deal with it and endure it.”

When asked about concerns related to claims that he had lost his creative streak, Lin assured that he would not pursue them further.

“People may tell me I’m no longer inspired or that my work isn’t improving,” he explained. “But it’s dangerous if I believe them and doubt myself.”

The 43-year-old singer, real name Wayne Lin Junjie, began his music career in 2003 with his debut album “Music Voyager”. He is also celebrated for his talent as a songwriter.

He has won three Golden Melody Awards, considered the equivalent of the Grammy Awards in Chinese-speaking countries, including one for Best New Artist and two for Best Male Singer in Mandarin.
