The Argentine national team is under fire after a video posted by midfielder Enzo Fernandez showed the Copa America winners singing a racist chant on Sunday night.

Argentina defeated Colombia 1-0 at Hard Rock Stadium to defend their Copa America title.

But an Instagram live post by Fernandez captured an ugly side of the post-match celebrations, as members of the team sang an infamous song that first emerged ahead of the 2022 World Cup final against France.

Before Argentina won that cup, too, fans were filmed singing about how France’s players were “all from Angola” and that “they fuck transvestites like Mbappe” (an obvious reference to the star’s previously reported romance with transgender model Ines Rau).

And the Argentine players could be heard repeating at least the Angolan part of the hideous song on their bus on Sunday, while Fernandez, grinning broadly, filmed the celebrations on his phone.

The Chelsea player had been filming before the Argentine players started singing that particular song, but ended the Instagram Live seconds after the racist chant began.

Fans of X strongly criticized Argentina for singing the song.

“Argentines are disgusting,” wrote one.

“Useless footballer. Useless person,” one said about Fernandez.

“Someone tell me this is a joke,” said another.

The video of the incident at the X-Bahn station (which also features other chants) has been viewed over a million times.

Only one player in the French squad for the 2022 World Cup, Eduardo Camavinga, was born in Angola.

Colombia’s starting lineup on Sunday consisted mostly of black players, including striker Jhon Cordoba, midfielder Jefferson Lerma and defender Davinson Sanchez.

And after a break following the Copa America, Fernandez will return to a Chelsea team captained by black Reece James.

The Argentine association has not yet commented on the video.
