The performance of the singer of the national anthem MLB Home Run Derby is criticized on social media

The MLB Home Run Derby did not start with a bang on Monday night, as singer Ingrid Andress faced heavy criticism for her rendition of the national anthem Monday night at Globe Life Field.

Andress, a 32-year-old singer-songwriter who is featured on the Billboard Hot 100, stood between the pitcher’s mound and home plate and began to sing.

From the beginning, Andress seemed to have some problems controlling her pitch, especially on the higher notes in “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

Home Run Derby participant Alec Bohm of the Philadelphia Phillies was even seen grinning as the broadcast panned to him during the national anthem.

This moment from Bohm was reminiscent of a previous weak anthem performance by pop star Fergie before the 2018 NBA All-Star Game, where several NBA stars tried not to respond to her singing.

Social media was quick to respond to Andress and was quite harsh in her criticism.

“My ears are bleeding. One of the worst renditions of the national anthem ever,” posted one X-user.

Another said: “Ingrid Andress rivals Fergie for the title of worst national anthem of all time.”

“Uhh… that anthem was interesting,” posted another X user.

Sports Illustrated writer Alex Carr chimed in: “I’m so sorry. I’m sure Ingrid Andress is a wonderful person, but that was, I think, one of the worst national anthems I’ve ever heard in my entire life.”
