BLACK PANTHER star Letitia Wright talks about her latest film, SOUND OF HOPE: THE STORY OF POSSOM TROT, which she produced.

Distributed by Angel Studios, the film was released on July 4 and tells the true story of Bishop WC Martin and Donna Martin, who pioneered foster and adoptive parents in their East Texas town.

“They are a wonderful example of what we can do to help children,” Wright said told THE VIEW. She discovered the Martins’ story in 2020 and was inspired after meeting their family.

“We created a beautiful film that gives a voice to at-risk children in the hopes that families across the country and around the world, regardless of their faith, race or diversity, will come together to help children and feel moved to make a difference in any way they can,” she said in a recent Instagram post.

“I firmly believe this film will rise above the discourse and speak for itself, and I encourage audiences everywhere to be inspired and witness the incredible true story of how a small church community changed the lives of 77 young children in Texas, and become part of the movement to change the lives of children across America and the world,” the actress added.

Wright’s personal faith journey influences her career as she continues to produce and star in films such as BLACK PANTHER and DEATH ON THE NILE. She attributes her love of the industry to her faith in God.

In a (n interview In her interview with Sadie Robertson Huff, Wright described how she almost gave up acting before landing Black Panther: “Everything was going well for me, but I was never satisfied… I was so hard on myself when I didn’t accomplish the things I wanted to accomplish in the time I set for myself. I really got off my own schedule, and God put a stop to that.”

After a year-long hiatus, Wright returned with a renewed sense of purpose and started her own production company with which she aims to “create meaningful content with cinematic excellence.”

Wright makes this dream come true in her latest work, “SOUND OF HOPE,” which is currently in theaters.

She told ABC News: “I think the main goal that I kept telling my colleagues was that at the end of the film, we would win the hearts of people who would say, ‘I want to adopt. I want to take care of the needs of a child, even if it’s just one (person).’ Then we’d made a difference.”

Movieguide® praises SOUND OF HOPE for its “strong Christian, biblical and morally uplifting worldview about caring for needy children.” The review states, among other things:

SOUND OF HOPE: THE STORY OF POSSUM TROT tells a heartwarming story. Donna Martin is grieving after the unexpected death of her mother. But when God tells her to take in a foster child, she finds new purpose. Her husband is the town pastor and also feels called to take in children. So he starts preaching about taking in those most in need. The whole town decides to take in foster children. Donna decides to take in a very troubled young girl named Terri. The family wonders if they can show Terri God’s love while also supporting their family.

SOUND OF HOPE: THE STORY OF POSSUM TROT is a beautiful story about an entire town that takes in foster children. As such, it has a strong Christian, morally uplifting worldview. However, the film deals with some of the realities and hardships faced by foster families and foster children, so MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution to children and families. However, SOUND OF HOPE: THE STORY OF POSSUM TROT shows that God’s love is real and that God will always be with you, no matter what your past.
