Although Netflix has found a niche in K-dramas, which currently appeal to a huge audience around the world, the streamer is not sleeping on other projects from Asia either. Japanese films and TV series are frequently celebrated around the world, so it is only a matter of time before their live-action series become as popular as anime. This week, the streamer released the trailer for Tokyo fraudstersa seven-episode crime drama series set to premiere on July 25.

Tokyo fraudsters revolves around a group of schemers looking to make a fortune in the Japanese real estate market. But since they’re dealing with moguls, the risks are as high as the rewards, and they have to navigate some pretty dangerous territory if they’re to put their plan into action. Their schemes include forging documents to “prove” ownership and hiring con artists to pose as landowners – all to defraud major land developers.

The central theme of Tokyo fraudsters reflects the reality in every major city in the world: property prices are skyrocketing and younger generations are coming to terms with the fact that they may not be able to afford a single plot of land for the rest of their lives. In the series, however, ethics are on the wrong track when the gang of con artists start playing with real landowners who are only out to make a profit. The problem is that when large sums of money are involved, it’s easy to lose track of who you can trust anymore and it’s pretty safe to say that it’s only a matter of time before the gang of con artists start beating each other up.
