Cambridge, Somerville and Medford police investigate series of six shootings: “Chaos breeds violence”

Local police are investigating a series of six shootings in Cambridge, Somerville and Medford and are asking the public for information about the incidents.

In the shootings since June 10, bullets hit several houses and vehicles, and one person was seriously injured.

“In these cases, officers recovered 60 shell casings from the 60 shootings in crowded areas,” Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said in a statement. “This type of chaos that spawns violence simply cannot go unnoticed.”

“I have assigned several prosecutors to work with our law enforcement partners to identify the perpetrators,” Ryan added. “I urge the public to join us in putting an end to this dangerous behavior by providing police with any information they may have.”

The first shooting occurred on June 10 in Somerville. Police responded to Fennell Street, where the homeowner said his house was shot at twice. The bullets entered his living room window while he was sitting on the couch.

According to reports, a man approached the house and fired a gun into the house. The man was arrested a short time later and the firearm was confiscated.

Investigators determined the gun had been stolen in Reading. The man, Sebastian LePage, 25, of Somerville, was ordered held without bail at his arraignment.

On June 26, police responded to three shootings. Around midnight, shots were reported on Summer Street outside Union Square in Somerville. Police recovered 33 shell casings from two different calibers of weapons. Investigators found bullets in a vehicle and four homes.

Also that same day, a man was shot in a vehicle on East Albion Street in Medford. He was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

At 10:37 p.m., Cambridge Police responded to a report of shots fired in Newtowne Court. Officers found six shell casings and a bullet fragment. There were two large groups of people in the parking lots at the time of the shooting. The weapons may have been fired into the air.
