“Is Gas Strike really that bad?” Helldivers 2 players comment on this underrated stratagem

With dozens of stratagems to choose from in Helldivers 2, it can be difficult to figure out what to carry when fighting the Automatons and Terminids. Not having the right support weapons can mean the difference between success and failure. Luckily, thanks to a very active online community, we can learn what others are having success with so we can try them out and see if they fit our playstyle.

U/d__radiodurans discussed the Gas Strike strategy, which is often overlooked by players, on the Helldivers 2 subreddit. “So I use Orbital Gas Strike on bug missions almost exclusively to close rifts, and I think that works pretty well,” they said.

Other players praised the underrated strategy, including U/Optimal-System7454, who said, “The Gas Strike is great. But be careful when using it with the Orbital Scatter modifier. In this case, you’re better off with the Eagle Napalm.”

U/CaptainMacObvious called the Gas Strike “absolutely awesome,” saying, “I use it a lot in Helldive. You can throw it on bug breaches and dropship drops and anywhere you know enemies will pass by. The cooldown is short, it’s a great stratagem.”

U/NK1337 said: “Gas and Napalm are my go-tos when dealing with bugs most of the time. Aside from the orbital debuff shenanigans, it’s always satisfying when you see a vent open and manage to throw yourself right into it while running away. You just see the democracy numbers slowly climb.”

U/SpecialIcy5356 also pointed out its effectiveness against automatons, although most only use it when fighting Terminids. “Gas is a dormant factor on bots in my opinion. Not only does it kill fabricators with a direct hit, but bots generally don’t move as much so they stay in the gas longer. Also, Gas Strike penetrates ALL armor, no matter how heavy it is. The substance is highly corrosive to metal, which is why it still works on bots.”

The Gas Strike Stratagem is something I’ve never used in a Helldivers 2 mission before, but after hearing so much praise from others, I’ll be taking it with me on my next mission, along with the Laser Cannon to take out the gunships, which have been a point of contention over the past few days as many players are finding how frustrating they can be.

The latest Major Order asks players to “split the Automaton forces in half” by cutting off supply lines in the Andromeda Sector, so these two stratagems could come in handy to ensure the robot army is wiped out once and for all.
