Fashion editors aren’t the only ones who are embracing the drop-waist dress trend. Photos of Taylor Swift on a recent double date show that the singer is also supporting the comeback of the figure-hugging silhouette. Unlike the rest of the street style, she creatively wears an additional corset under her dress.
Brittany Mahomes, a close friend of Swift, shared photos from her trips to see the singer perform in London and Amsterdam on Monday, July 15. The caption included two snaps from an apparent double date with their respective partners: Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes (Brittany’s husband) and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce (Taylor’s boyfriend). Taylor Swift stands front and center in a group photo, hugging Brittany in a Cinderella-blue drop-waisted Vivienne Westwood dress. A checkered corset by the same designer peeks out from under the midi dress’s asymmetrical straps.

The rest of Swift’s double-date-night style reflected her penchant for mixing capital-L luxury brands with affordable finds that even her fans can copy. She carried a heart-shaped bag by Vivienne Westwood — a novel shape that’s trending among designers from Alaïa to Kate Spade — and completed her outfit with $80 yellow sandals from Chinese Laundry. The hues of the bag and shoes seemed to pick up on the hues woven into the print of the plaid corset.

True Swifties already know what will be said next, but it bears repeating: Everything Taylor Swift and her stylist Joseph Cassell Falconer wear off the rack is a conscious choice. Aside from nodding to the drop-waisted dress trend that’s been rampant among runway fashion and everyday brands – including Sandy Liang, Ferragamo and Jil Sander – the dress’s designer is also continuing a story that Swift started on the European leg of the Epoch tour.
Vivienne Westwood’s corsets are a cornerstone of Taylor Swift’s TDepartment of Poets Era fashion. The singer has worn them everywhere, from early street style appearances that teased the album’s moody, Victorian aesthetic, to the music video for “Fortnight” to the Epoch tour Stage. (Swift’s dress two dresses for theTortured poets (The setlist consists of white Vivienne Westwood candy with lyrics from the album scrawled in cursive on the skirts.) During her London stop on the tour, Swift also went out to dinner with friends wearing a Vivienne Westwood bustier and matching pants—along with a watch necklace that fans consider an Easter egg for… something that hasn’t been revealed yet.

Swift makes a point of choosing designers who hail from the cities she visits. If Swift, Kelce and Mahomes’ double date had taken place in London, where Vivienne Westwood lives, it would have been an especially fitting choice. (Mahomes’ post does not specify where their double date took place.)
As Taylor Swift completes the second half of her European tour, the majority of her fashion moments take place on stage. On her way to an after-party in London, she matched Kelce in a crochet minidress and Gucci heels.
