Jordan Love gives vague updates on his new contract as Packers training camp approaches

The Green Bay Packers were hoping to sign a new contract with Jordan Love before training camp.

Players will report to training camp this week, starting with the rookies and injured players on Wednesday before the veterans join in on Sunday. The first practice is just a week away, and if the Packers want to extend Love’s contract by then, they’ll have to move fast.

There’s an advantage to getting the deal done sooner rather than later. The longer it takes, the more of a distraction it becomes. Green Bay doesn’t want every question in Love’s press conferences to revolve around his contract situation, especially with only one year left on his current contract.

Love provided a vague update.

Love appeared in an AMA (Ask Me Anything) for Bleacher Report and answered questions from Packers fans. Inevitably, Love was asked about a possible new contract, to which he unsurprisingly gave a vague answer.

“That would mean a lot to me. That would be awesome. Signing a contract extension with the team that drafted you is something every player dreams of,” Love said. “Hopefully that will happen here in the future, but I’m excited for the upcoming season and what our team has in store and whether we can build something long-term here in Green Bay.”

I mean, he had no intention of revealing all the details of the negotiations, but Love also gave no indication that anything would be done soon.

He said he hopes it happens “here in the future,” then talked about his excitement for the upcoming season. There was no comment about hoping to get it done soon or any reference to the possibility of a deal being agreed upon before training camp.

Again, it’s important not to overreact when Love answers a question in a Q&A with a fan. Details about his upcoming contract extension are being kept under wraps until there is something to report.

However, the training camp is only a few days away and a new contract Despite it is not yet complete. Most people expected this to happen some time ago, but the Packers now run the risk of creating a distraction once the team returns to the practice field.
