Salvation Army on “Love despite the Texas heat”

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) – The Salvation Army in Wichita Falls is preparing to spread “Love Beyond the Texas Heat” as temperatures rise during the summer months.

The Salvation Army in Wichita Falls said the scorching heat could pose a challenge for many people in the community as their children are out of school, utility costs are rising and it is so hard for the homeless or people who work outdoors to find shade and comfort.

One very practical way the Salvation Army is helping is by opening its doors to provide shade and fluids to people seeking shelter from the oppressive summer heat. When temperatures reach 100 degrees or more, the Salvation Army facility at 403 7th Street will be open as a cooling station between 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Cooling stations serve the health of the population by providing hydration and cooling opportunities, thereby reducing the risk of heat stress:

The summer heat is also a reminder to check on your neighbors, such as the elderly, those who are shut in, or those living in older homes with inadequate cooling systems.

For more information about the Cooling Station or other Salvation Army programs, please contact us at 403 7th Street, Wichita Falls, TX, or call (940) 322-9822.
