Rising country star Mackenzie Carpenter shows a new side of her artistry with a vulnerable new love song titled “Only Girl.”

The ballad invites listeners to take a personal look into the singer-songwriter’s love life, as the song was written about her relationship with now-husband Cole and was even used in her wedding video following their October 2023 nuptials.

Although this song is a little different than all of her previous releases, Carpenter explained that this song is special to her as it was written from the bottom of her heart. The song, co-written with her brother Micah Carpenter, as well as Mia Mantia and SJ McDonald, tells the beautiful story of the love she receives from her husband.

“Don’t get me wrong, I love writing songs about all kinds of subjects, from heartbreak to best friends to a good old country crime song,” Carpenter shared in a statement. “But this song I wrote about a man I’m so grateful to have found, one who truly loves me like I’m the only girl in the whole world. I hope everyone finds someone who makes them feel that way!”

Carpenter opens the song with a few vulnerable lines: “He sings me like his favorite song on the radio/He fits me like the perfect old blue jeans/Every kiss is like wildfire, he takes me higher than the sky/God, help me.”

She builds on these heartfelt feelings and continues through to the chorus: “He looks at me like the only star in his sky/He holds me like he’ll never say goodbye/And I know there are millions and billions of people/Living in this world/But he loves me like I’m the only girl.”

The song has a soulful music video that features Mackenzie and her husband slow dancing in the glow of a pickup truck’s headlights on a backyard date. Watch it above.

In addition to writing and recording her own music, Carpenter is also a gifted songwriter and has three songs on the just-released Megan Moroney album, Am I Okay? Carpenter, who also appeared on Moroney’s debut album, shared her excitement on social media on release day.

“I’m so damn grateful to be a part of these songs and this record!!!! We wrote all three songs on December 17th last year – damn good day,” she said, adding, “Happy release day, Megan Moroney.”

Mackenzie Carpenter’s previous releases include the TikTok viral song “Huntin’ Season,” the girl anthem “Don’t Mess With Exes,” and her take on the Cyndi Lauper classic “Country Girls (Just Wanna Have Fun).”
