Author from Rehoboth writes picture book for children

Author and former teacher Aimee Isaac from Rehoboth has written a picture book for children that encourages responsible environmental protection from a young age.

Isaac’s “The Place We Call Home,” to be published in 2023 by Philomel, a division of Penguin Young Readers, teaches children about the earth’s interconnectedness with the people who live on it, she said.

Isaac, a former elementary school teacher and reading specialist, said she is currently working on her second children’s book, which she also describes as informational fiction with environmental themes.

Isaac said that when she was a teacher, her class had terrariums filled with carnivorous plants. Students had fun catching crickets to feed their class plants, she said, noting that children naturally enjoy being outside and learning from nature.

At a book signing and reading on July 11 at Abbott’s Mill Nature Center, Isaac spoke about the writing and publishing process, as well as ways kids can prevent pollution and protect the planet through conservation efforts.

“The more you know, the more you care about the earth,” she said.
