New live-action series “Spider-Man” finds its cast

Is it finally time for a live action Spider-Man Series?

The story of young Peter Parker, a nerd from Queens, and the world-famous motto “With great power comes great responsibility” have captivated audiences for generations. Various actors have brought the friendly New York City Spider-Man to life in numerous Marvel television and film adaptations, all inspired by the rich legacy of Marvel Comics created by the legendary Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.

The journey began with Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man/Peter Parker in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man Trilogy from 2002 to 2007. Andrew Garfield then took over the role in The Incredible Spiderman Series that began in 2012 and continues with its sequel, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2014.

The most recent portrayal of Peter Parker comes from Tom Holland, who first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) of the Walt Disney Company’s Marvel Studios in Captain America: Civil War in 2016, followed by his solo debut in Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017.

After the events of the MCU Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) and the reality-altering magic of Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), Tom Holland’s Peter Parker has consciously withdrawn from the public eye.

Now it seems that an upcoming live-action Spider-Man Series has found some of its leading roles.

Nicolas Cage – the newest Spider-Man?

However, Peter Parker is not the only version of the web-slinger. Stan Lee often said that anyone can be Spider-Man, a concept vividly illustrated in Across the Spider-Verse (2023). This film features numerous Spider-People, including Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld), Miguel O’Hara (Oscar Isaac), Jessica Drew (Issa Rae), Hobie Brown (Daniel Kaluuya) and of course Spider-Cat (Amanda Troop).

Even Nicolas Cage, who played the iconic, smooth-tongued Spider-Man variant in Into the Spider-Verse (2018), Spider-Noir, is considered another “Spider-Man” in the vast Spider-Verse (and the larger multiverse).

According to a report from Variety, it seems as if Brave heart (1995) and Into the storm (2009) star Brendan Gleeson has been confirmed for an as-yet-unnamed role at MGM+ and Amazon‘S new live action Spider-Vers Spinoff series Spider Noirled by co-showrunners and executive producers Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot and starring none other than Cage himself in the Spider-Noir role.

Additionally, Variety reports that actor Lamorne Morris has been cast as Robbie Robertson in the upcoming historical drama set in a parallel universe. He is a “determined, hard-working” journalist who “won’t take no for an answer.” Morris’ role in Spider NoirA new series was officially described as follows:

A dedicated journalist tries to make it as a black professional in 1930s New York, despite the odds. To get attention and make money, he takes on riskier stories that no one else would touch. He’s willing to do whatever it takes to advance his career.

Sony Pictures, owner of the Spider-Man The owner of the film rights to the franchise is dedicated to his superhero goldmine.

The joint venture between Sony and Marvel Studios will produce the upcoming Tom Holland-led Spider Man 4 Rumour has it that filming will begin in September, it is only a matter of time before the Spider-Man Franchise – arguably the most successful superhero franchise of all time – will once again be seen on viewers’ screens.

If Sony has its way, fans of the web-slinging New Yorker will probably get to see the wall-climbing icon soon.

And this does not only apply to the Marvel Studios of the Walt Disney Company (which is increasingly dependent on the Marvel IPs of Sony and 20th Century Fox), because new projects like this Spider Noir The series could help revive the Sony Spider-Man Universe (SSU), home to many box office flops such as Morbius (2022) with Jared Leto as Michael M. Morbius and Madame Web (2023) with Dakota Johnson as Madame Web/Cassandra Webb/Cassie Webb.

Spider Noir is said to tell the story of an “aging and down-on-his-luck private detective (Cage) in 1930s New York who must come to terms with his former life as the city’s only superhero.”
