Chic country club pool project approved in West Hartford

WEST HARTFORD, CT — An exclusive country club in West Hartford is on the verge of overhauling its premier pool offerings after the city’s Planning Board approved the plans earlier this month.

The West Hartford Plan & Zoning Commission unanimously approved a special permit on July 1 allowing the Hartford Golf Club, 134 Norwood Road, West Hartford, to remodel its existing pool area and build a new swimming pool.

After a public hearing, the PZC approved the measure by a vote of 5-0 under certain conditions.

These conditions are standard on every permit and address erosion/sediment control/drainage as well as compliance with city building codes.

The club will appear before the PZC again in July 2026 so that the zoning committee members can assess the club’s compliance with the permit.

According to a project description submitted to the city by New Haven-based Langan Engineering & Environmental Services, which represents the club, the project consists of several components.

According to Langan, these include a new swimming pool, renovations to the existing swimming pool facility and a new “lifeguard hut” that will serve as a base of operations for lifeguard personnel.

Langan said the project also requires relocating water and sewer lines that run beneath the current basin.

After completion, the area will be redesigned with various forms of vegetation.

“Disturbed areas will be replanted with native or adapted vegetation, including evergreens, flowering shrubs, perennials and native grasses,” Langan wrote to the city.

Hartford Golf Club is a 256-acre private country club with a 27-hole golf course, swimming facilities, tennis/squash courts, a four-lane bowling alley and a fitness center.
