Looking for a late summer beach read? A stroll through Philadelphia’s independent bookstores promises special deals on all kinds of novels suitable for the beach or an air-conditioned armchair.

The Philly Bookstore Crawl returns for its second year on Saturday, August 24. The returning event will once again feature sales, giveaways and author events at bookstores across the city. Stores in Jenkintown, Haverford, Wayne, Ardmore, Narbeth, Elkins Park and Haddonfield will also participate, bringing the crawl’s total to 33 stops.

This year, the crawl is offering a sneak peek at one of the newest bookstores on the scene: Binding Agents, a cookbook store opening in the Italian Market. Visitors can stop by 908 Christian St. to attend a preview co-hosted with Molly’s Books & Records, another crawl destination, and fill out a bingo card to receive discounts when Binding Agents officially opens.

Other highlights include an “Ask Me Anything” discussion with five literary agents at American Grammar at 10 a.m. and an after-party at Main Point Books featuring stories from authors including Emma Copley Eisenberg at 7 p.m. Publishers have donated boxes of children’s books for raffles at Big Blue Marble and Children’s Book World. Adults can score free crime, historical and romance novels at A Novel Idea and Capricorn Books. Elsewhere, posters, tote bags and birdwatching guides will be handed out while supplies last.

More offers and events will be announced on the event’s Instagram account as the date approaches. Participating bookstores are listed in the map below:
