Action Bronson x New Balance 1906R “Medusa Azul” review

Cheers to Dr. Bachlava! Queens, New York-born rapper and chef Action Bronson has teamed up with New Balance for the third time to create a new 1906R dubbed the “Medusa Azul,” no doubt a nod to the blue colorway. With a mix of new inspiration, attention to detail, and flawless storytelling from his all-encompassing world of music, food, wrestling, and fitness, the “Medusa Azuls” complete the trilogy of 1906Rs from the Baklava King and the Boston-based sneaker company. The result is another rare example of hype meeting quality, and we’re excited for the duo’s next collaboration. Let’s get started with this week’s official “Kickin’ Facts” review!

The latest Action Bronson x New Balance 1906R features multiple shades of blue in its mesh upper with synthetic overlays, ranging from navy to lighter shades of azure. Other colors include bronze splashes, a grey textured tongue, purple laces, a silver “NLock” emblem, and black splashes on the toe cap and rear heel on the N-ergy rubber outsole. The extensive color mix makes for an interesting upgrade to the silhouette of the 1906R, which was originally developed as a running shoe and was inspired by designs from the 2000s. The text “Baklava” adorns the sneaker’s label and tongue, along with New Balance logos, further elaborating on the world of Bronson and his heritage. This is a nod to the multi-talented artist’s Albanian upbringing and love of food.

As if the sneaker’s many shades of blue weren’t enough, Bronson has also put his own twist on the shoe’s packaging. The cherry red box features the text “Baklava” in a bold silver-colored reflective font, a fully reflective red mirror under the box’s lid, and a bright orange mesh bag with the text “Specializing in Life” that adds to the uniqueness of the collaboration. What do you think of the “Medusa Azul” 1906R? Would you buy it?

The Action Bronson x New Balance 1906R “Medusa Azul” released on July 12th for $185 and is now available at select retailers.
