Mayor Chris Koos announces re-election for sixth term

NORMAL, Ill. (WMBD) – In an announcement Monday morning, Normal Mayor Chris Koos said he will seek re-election to an anticipated sixth term in the April 2025 consolidated election.

In a press release from his office on Monday, Koos said his “guiding principle is not just to live in great communities, but to work to create great communities.”

Koos has been mayor since February 2003 and has used his experience as a Vietnam veteran to lead the city through profound change. He said he does not take the responsibility of being mayor lightly.

Koos also served as vice president of the Illinois Municipal League, on the Amtrak board, and as vice chair of the U.S. Conference of Mayors’ Transportation Committee, the press release said.

He has also owned and operated a small business in the area, Vitesse Cycle Shop and Often Running in Normal, for more than four decades.

“Working with my fellow council members, dedicated city staff and community stakeholders, we have worked to make Normal the unique and wonderful place it is today. Together, we can accomplish even more. I am the right choice for Normal and have the experience and passion needed to continue to lead Normal,” he said.
