On introduces “LightSpray” technology with the new Cloudboom Strike LS

On has developed a new technology to expand its running shoe range. The technology is called LightSpray and is developed in a one-step process that sprays the material instead of building it up. This reduces CO2 emissions by 75% compared to other On running shoes.

Using a robotic arm, the shoe’s one-piece upper and sole are then assembled in just three minutes, creating the new Cloudboom Strike LS, the first model to feature On’s LightSpray.

The lightweight, seamless upper has a sock-like appearance and no laces, allowing the shoe to provide the runner with a comfortable fit around the foot and ankle. On uses a carbon speedboard between the upper and sole, while the midsole contains On’s Hyperfoam.

In the Cloudboom Strike LS, there is no second sockliner and the entire shoe is joined without glue for a more seamless, tear-resistant design. Other running shoes, both in On’s range and in the wider market, use a variety of methods, such as weaving, sewing, gluing and finishing.

On has been testing the Cloudboom Strike LS with its athletes and the shoe even made its debut earlier this year with Hellen Obiri during her second consecutive victory at the Boston Marathon.

The Cloudboom Strike LS retails for $330 and will be available this fall. Those interested can sign up on On’s website to be notified when the shoe is available.
