Dye Designs completes bunker renovation at The Club at Inverness

Dye Designs Group has completed the renovation of a bunker at The Club at Inverness in Englewood, Colorado.

The 10-week project was led by Cynthia Dye McGarey, principal of Dye Designs, and her son Matt McGarey, a senior design associate at the firm.

“The bunkers at the Club at Inverness were in dire need of renovation,” said Dye. “Over the years, sand spatter deposition had become a significant problem in virtually all of them, while some had expanded to the point of encroaching on the tree line. Many also had eroding edges that contaminated what little sand remained.”

Dye Designs evaluated the Press Maxwell-designed course and implemented a plan that reduced the size of the bunkers, eliminating eight and adding Better Billy bunker liners and new sand to the remaining 54.

“One of our main goals was to recreate the design intent of each bunker as efficiently as possible,” said McGarey, who oversaw construction on site by Total Turf Golf Services. “To do this, we used the extra soil that had accumulated in front of each bunker as fill material. This approach allowed us to avoid any costs associated with importing or exporting material from the site.”

The renovation has reduced the size of the greenside bunkers to match the size of the putting areas, made them more visually appealing and increased the playable grass area. The expected result is a 50 percent saving in bunker maintenance costs.

“Initial feedback from our members on the bunker renovation has been extremely positive,” said Dave Steinmetz, Director of Golf at The Club at Inverness. “It has been a pleasure working with Cynthia, Matt and the entire team at Dye Designs Group. They are true experts and we look forward to potential future opportunities to work with them to further enhance the golf experience at Inverness.”
