Russia should attend second Ukraine summit, says Zelensky amid raging war

Kyiv:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Monday that Russia should be represented at a second summit aimed at achieving lasting peace with the Kremlin after more than two years of war.

Dozens of world leaders expressed support for a just peace in Ukraine following a high-level summit convened by Zelensky in Switzerland last month, to which Russia was not invited.

“I believe that Russian representatives should be present at the second summit,” Zelensky said at a press conference in Kyiv, where he outlined preparations for a follow-up summit.

Zelensky announced that separate meetings on key issues such as energy security in Qatar and food security in Turkey would be held ahead of a second summit.

On June 15, heads of state and government from more than 90 countries met in a Swiss mountain resort for a two-day summit dedicated to resolving Europe’s biggest conflict since World War II.

The Kremlin described all discussions about ending the conflict without Russia’s involvement as “absurd”.
