The first leak about the DJI Action 5 Pro last month suggested that a new GoPro competitor was on the way – and now a new leaked image has given us a better idea of the action cam’s potential specs and design.
Regular DJI leaker @OsitaLV has shared an image (below) of what appears to be an upcoming Action 5 Pro successor to the DJI Osmo Action 4, which is set to launch in August 2023. Like the current model, some of its specs are marked on the lens.
For those who were hoping for upgrades like a 1-inch sensor, it might be a disappointment, as the Action 5 Pro’s key specs appear to be identical to those of the Action 4. These include a 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor, an f/2.8 aperture, and a 155-degree field of view.

This leak follows reports of a July 7 filing with the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) for the Action 5 Pro, which pointed to specs such as a 1,950mAh battery (up from 1,770mAh on the current model) and support for Wi-Fi 6.
So the action cam will almost certainly launch soon, but what other new features could it have to justify the ‘Pro’ name? Since it appears to have a similar design to the Action 4, there may not be much scope for major upgrades.
Still, it’s possible that a new processor could unlock improvements like improved image stabilization, higher video bitrates, and hopefully some improved photo modes. Given the recent FCC filing and these new leaks, we shouldn’t have to wait too long for official specs.
What about the next GoPro?
The release of a DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro would be good news for anyone looking for a new action camera, but some may prefer to wait for a GoPro Hero 13 Black. If GoPro follows its usual release schedule, the new Hero model would likely be released in September.
We currently rate the DJI Osmo Action 4 in our guide to the best action cameras as the best alternative to the GoPro Hero 12 Black. It’s a shame that DJI doesn’t seem to be planning to compete with the 1-inch edition of the Insta360 One R with its new “Pro” model, at least in terms of sensor size – especially since the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 already has a 1-inch sensor.
DJI could expand its range of action cameras with the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro succeeding the Osmo Action 4 and making room for some cheaper models – and possibly a successor to the modular, cube-shaped DJI Osmo Action 2, which launched back in November 2021.
The DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro may also launch alongside a DJI Air 3S drone, which appeared in separate leaks in June. Whatever the case, it looks like DJI’s launch plans aren’t slowing down despite the looming prospect of a DJI ban in the US.
