9-year-old singer-songwriter offers comfort by performing her special songs

GUILFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A little girl with a big voice and an even bigger heart, a 9-year-old singer-songwriter from Guilford is stirring emotions with her meaningful work.

She’s only 9 years old, but Remy Adair can belt out tunes and play the piano like a pro.

“I was looking for an instrument that I could play in all my free time,” she said, noting that she had been taking lessons since she was a child.

Believe it or not, she writes all the lyrics herself and they are profound and important words.

“There’s an empty seat in his fire truck and there’s an empty seat at the dinner table,” Adair said, describing a recent song inspired by a North Haven firefighter who lost his life several years ago.

She sings: “Some days are just unfair and their prayers go unanswered.”

“When I start composing it and hear the story of what happened, I get sad,” she said.

But when Adair performs her special songs in front of an audience, she realizes that the music makes a difference.

Last week she performed Empty Seat at a gala for Our Community Hero’s, an organization that supports frontline workers.

“When I do the concert and finish all my songs, I’m happy about what I did because I feel like I made the person I did it to happy,” Adair said.

Adair is also a normal kid who loves football, movies and yes, everything by Taylor Swift.

She dreams of becoming famous, but always wants to stay close to home and sing about the stories that matter to the people here in Connecticut.

“It’s really fun and the meaning is close to my heart,” she said.

Adair will perform at the Guilford Porchfest on September 7th and then at the Durham Fair on September 28th.
