Ablakwa calls for dismissal of agriculture and labour ministers

North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa called for the dismissal of the Ministers of Agriculture and Labour.

In a post on his official X account on Monday, July 15, the NDC MP criticised both ministers for their inaction and expressed dismay at the disrespect shown to the citizens, attributing these factors to the nationwide strike by all unions.

In his post, Ablakwa said the strike could have been completely prevented if the union leaders had not acted unlawfully.

“Today’s historic nationwide strike by all unions could have been prevented if it had not been for the intransigence, warmongering, lawlessness, total disregard for the people and an unbridled penchant for government interference,” his post reads in part.

Ablakwa also called for the immediate dissolution of the board and management of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) and the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA) over their oversight of the proposed sale of four SSNIT hotels; a decision that has since been reversed.

“The board and management of SSNIT and NPRA must be dissolved immediately! The Minister of Labour and the Minister of Agriculture must be subsequently sacked!” Ablakwa posted.

The unions declared the industrial action, which takes effect on July 15, after an emergency meeting over the proposed sale of SSNIT’s 60 percent stake in some of its hotels to the Rock City Hotel, owned by Food and Agriculture Minister Bryan Acheampong.

Due to public criticism and strong reactions, the Rock City Hotel has now withdrawn its offer.

The SSNIT board and management also announced that they would halt the sale of a 60 percent stake in its hotels. They assured pensioners, contributors and the public that they would continue to manage the Trust’s affairs to ensure the sustainability of the scheme.
