Cleary University takes top spot in Michigan for return on investment – The Livingston Post.com

Cleary University ranked first in Michigan in return on investment (ROI) among private, nonprofit colleges. Students who graduate with a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Cleary earn an average of $1,124,708 – nearly $200,000 more than the school that ranks second in the state.

Cleary also ranked first in the state in earnings one year and 10 years after graduation, according to data from the Foundation for Research on Equal Opportunity (FREOPP).

“We attribute this top ranking to many factors, particularly the focus of our curriculum on the job market,” said Cleary President Alan Drimmer. “Employers seek out Cleary graduates because they are equipped with the characteristics of The Cleary Mind™ – critical and creative thinking, problem solving, effective communication, entrepreneurial spirit, persuasion and ethical leadership. Our students are ready for the world of work upon graduation from Cleary, and FREOPP results have proven this.”

“Cleary is extremely proud of its strong and highly experienced faculty who bring their real-world business experience to the classroom. Students learn from experts in their field of study.”

Small class sizes and personalized attention contribute to Cleary’s historic success.

The FREOPP report estimates the ROI—how much college increases lifetime earnings (minus the cost of tuition, books, materials, and lost earnings during education)—for 53,000 different degree and certificate programs. Bachelor’s degree programs have an average ROI of $160,000. FREOPP put Cleary’s ROI at $1,124,708.

In addition, Cleary bachelor’s degree graduates earn an average of more than $67,000 one year after graduation. The second-listed school’s annual salary was nearly $10,000 lower one year after graduation. After 10 years, Cleary graduates earn an average of $94,000 per year, while graduates of the second-listed school earned $11,000 less annually.

This recently released data from FREOPP was updated from a previous study on ROI and used data from the U.S. Department of Education’s College Scorecard. The FREOPP report also indicates that certain majors have a higher ROI because the school prepares students for jobs with high labor market demand. “That’s why an education at Cleary is so valuable,” emphasizes Dr. Drimmer. “We prepare our students for the current demands of the labor market.”

Georgetown University’s Center on Education and the Workforce also ranked Cleary as one of the best private, nonprofit universities in Michigan in terms of ROI. Cleary ranked 3rd based on net present value (NPV) of all private, nonprofit schools in Michigan 10 years after graduation.

In addition, the Wall Street Journal ranked Cleary fifth nationally in student loan debt relative to starting salary.

“Cleary often outpaces other business schools in terms of the pace of innovation,” said Drimmer. “Clearary University’s focus is on providing extensive resources and an affordable, high-quality education to each and every student.”

To make this possible, Cleary offers a free or low-cost tuition program called the “Cougar Country Promise” for students who live anywhere in Michigan.

Cleary has also established an accelerated degree program for first responders, including police, fire and emergency medical services.

“It has attracted hundreds of adult students who found the program convenient, flexible, accessible and affordable,” Drimmer said.

Since the program began, more than 600 Detroit Police Department officers and personnel have graduated from Cleary. That number does not include Michigan State Police first responders and troopers from across the state who have graduated from Cleary.

“High school students consistently report that they are looking for a good job that will allow them to make more money,” said Jeremy Walker, senior vice president of enrollment management at Cleary. “A growing number of these students are skeptical that college is the right path, which has led to declining enrollment numbers at universities across the country. At Cleary, we are very proud to say that last year’s class had the highest enrollment number in decades.”

Cleary enrolled 1,050 new students for the 2023-2024 school year, a 17% increase over the previous year.

This year, Cleary has taken another step to improve the enrollment process for freshmen. Cleary Direct Connect is a new program that automatically admits qualified students to the university through a streamlined admissions process. Cleary Direct Connect virtually eliminates the entire application process and leads directly to the enrollment steps.

“Cleary is becoming known as one of the best business schools in the state and the country, and we plan to maintain that momentum,” Drimmer said.
