Today Anberlin announced the release of their new album. Vegaon August 2nd via Equal Vision Records.
The highly anticipated release is their first proper record since announcing singer Stephen Christian’s exit from touring and adding Matty Mullins of Memphis May Fire. The twelve tracks are deliberately free-flowing and represent the ever-evolving and diverse nature of Anberlin; with a handful of much harder tracks, a foray into industrial exploration and Anberlin’s signature mellow vibes.
On the new chapter of Anberlin, drummer Nate Young emphasizes “With Anberlin, there have been several eras in our career. This new era with Matty Mullins is one we could not be more excited about. As with all things, you never know how long that period will last, but we are definitely going to fully embrace it and enjoy the process to the fullest.”
To coincide with the album announcement, Anberlin released the album’s first single, “Walk Alone,” with an accompanying music video that details the journey of a spouse or partner battling depression. Although the struggle is often silent, the lyrics document how painful it can be to watch someone you love struggle with such intense emotions. The song reassures you that you are never alone, and shows the compassion and care of a true partnership and commitment.
Anberlin guitarist and singer Christian McAlhaney adds about the sound of the song: “‘Walk Alone’ is an interesting mix of traditional and modern Anberlin sound. The goal was to approximate the classic Anberlin sound with a more contemporary approach to songwriting and production.”
