Celine Dion thanks her fans and family and at the same time draws attention to the autoimmune disease that she has been trying to “overcome” for over a year.

“Today the world celebrates International SPS Awareness Day,” the 55-year-old singer wrote on Instagram on Friday. Dion attached a photo of herself posing with her three sons, 23-year-old René-Charles Angélil and 13-year-old twins Eddy and Nelson.

“As many of you know, I was diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) in the fall of 2022,” she continued. “Trying to overcome this autoimmune disease has been one of the most difficult experiences of my life, but I remain determined to one day get back on stage and live as normal a life as possible. I am deeply grateful for the love and support of my children, my family, my team, and all of you!”

“I want to send my encouragement and support to everyone in the world affected by SPS. I want you to know that you can do it! We can do it!” she concluded, signing off with “Love, Celine xx.”

The announcement was also published in French.

Dion had already made her diagnosis public in December 2022. “I have been struggling with health issues for a long time and it has been really difficult for me to face these challenges and talk about everything I have been through,” she said tearfully in a video.

She had largely disappeared from the public eye until November 2023, when she attended an NHL hockey game between the Vegas Golden Knights and the Montreal Canadiens at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Dion is from Charlemagne, near Montreal, and performed in Vegas for many years.

At the 66th Annual Grammy Awards last month, Dion made a surprise and triumphant return to the music stage, where she presented Taylor Swift with the award for Album of the Year.

The singer of “My Heart Will Go On” was accompanied by her eldest son and received a standing ovation.
