Chris Hemsworth reveals that his brother Liam was also in talks for the Thor role, but not at the same time

“By the time I got to audition again, he was already out of the picture,” Chris said of how he and his brother were never directly competing for the MCU role at the same time.

Chris Hemsworth wasn’t the only one considered for a place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In a new TikTok video by Vanity FairThe 40-year-old Marvel superstar revealed that he and his younger brother Liam Hemsworth were both considered for the role of Thor in the 2011 film of the same name.

Chris portrayed the God of Thunder and the Avenger from 2011 to 2022. He starred alongside Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye.

The Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga confirmed during a lie detector test for the publication that 34-year-old Liam had also auditioned for the role. However, he was not worried that his brother would get the part.

“I was told I wasn’t going to get the part at the time, so I was happy for him, maybe a little jealous, but I was happy for him,” Chris explained. “Then when I got to audition again, he was out of the running.”

“So we were never on the same page,” Chris clarified. “Either I was involved, then I wasn’t, then he was involved, then he wasn’t, then I was involved.”

As the lie detector test continued, Chris was asked if there had ever been a role of his brother that he would have liked to play himself.

“No, no,” Chris assured the interviewer. But the interviewer quickly added: “Not even The last song?”

This made the actor laugh.”The last song? (laughs) No,” said Chris. “His life would be very different, wouldn’t it?”

The polygraph examiner subsequently reported that his answer was “inconclusive,” leading him to confirm that he did not want to star in the 2010 romantic drama.

The last song follows Liam’s William as he slowly falls in love with Miley Cyrus’ Ronnie, a young musician from New York City who is visiting her estranged father for the summer. Cyrus, 31, and Liam met during the production of the film. They began dating and later married in 2018. The couple announced their separation the following year and divorced in 2020.
