The stage is set for the final of the 2024 European Championship and England are hoping for their first championship victory against Spain in Berlin.

After almost 60 years without winning a major tournament, Gareth Southgate’s men now have the chance to finally end their trophy drought but will have to be at their best to beat the Spanish side, who shook up the tournament this summer with some great performances in Germany.

The highlight of the tournament will be shown on both BBC and ITV, with the latter broadcaster’s coverage being led by Mark Pougatch, alongside Laura Woods, who has quickly become one of the country’s most respected sports presenters.

As one of the most recognisable faces on television, Woods’ private life has always piqued viewers’ interest too, with her relationships often making headlines. Here’s everything you need to know about the ITV presenter’s life away from the cameras.

Who is Laura Woods?

Born in Dagenham in 1987, Woods began her career in broadcasting after graduating from Kingston University with a degree in print journalism. She joined Sky Sports as a runner in 2009 and eventually worked her way up to become a producer at the channel.

Woods then moved into presenting, giving behind-the-scenes interviews for Sky Sports’ darts coverage on YouTube before landing a job on the Saturday morning children’s show Game changerShe soon began covering the NFL before joining Soccer AM’s online presenting team and leading the show’s Facebook coverage of Euro 2016.

In 2018, she became a regular pitchside reporter on Sky Sports’ Super Sunday, but left the broadcaster in 2022 after 13 years. Following her departure from Sky Sports, it was announced that Woods would host ITV’s Friday night NFL highlights show. A few months later, she was appointed one of ITV’s presenters for the World Cup in Qatar, while she was also the main presenter of the broadcaster’s coverage of the 2023 Women’s World Cup.

Last summer, she moved to TNT Sports as the main presenter for the Champions League and boxing coverage. The 36-year-old presenter also works for DAZN and reports on boxing and the Women’s Champions League for the online streaming service as well as for Amazon Prime Video.

Reality TV friend and ex-sports star

In October, Woods announced her new boyfriend, former Love Island contestant Adam Collard.

The 28-year-old fitness coach, who appeared in the fourth season of the popular show before returning for season eight, has declared Woods “The One” after embarking on a whirlwind romance with the host. Since announcing their relationship, the pair have shared photos from romantic trips, with Collard admitting he has plans for a life with Woods, who is eight years his senior.

“I’m protective, whether it’s about Laura or my family, my friends. I want to get married. I want to have kids too. I’ve always thought about what kind of person I’m going to be. How can I protect my kids?” he said. “We’re not necessarily the average everyday couple. We both do a lot and I think I’ve always been beyond my years anyway, I think it’s probably exactly what I’ve needed for a long time.”

Woods was previously in a long-term relationship with former English loosehead prop Alex Corbisiero. The pair were together for eight years before the presenter ended the relationship – a decision she does not regret.

“My last relationship lasted eight years and I was nearly 30 when we split up,” she told The Sun. “It was my decision – it was the right one and I have never regretted it. We were at each other’s mercy and splitting up with him felt like I was gasping for air.”

“The next step for us was probably marriage and having kids. And I want to do that one day – I love being in love and I love kids. But I made work a priority because I love that too and my ambitions are important to me.”

“Real fear” amid scary threats

Earlier this year, it was revealed that Woods was now living in “real fear” as a result of a two-year harassment campaign by an obsessive stalker.

Football fan Harneet Kaur, 25, began attacking the presenter on social media before ordering food to her doorstep, sending her Bibles and STI kits and making gruesome threats.

After an order of Krispy Kreme doughnuts mysteriously arrived at her London address, Woods initially thought it was a kind gesture, posting on social media that it had “made her evening”. However, a few days later, a Starbucks order arrived with the message “From your secret admirer and I’m not crazy” and the presenter was soon bombarded with messages.

One accused Woods of being “a former prostitute who slept her way into a job,” while another showed Kaur detailing how she would kill the TV presenter’s dog. It was also revealed that the stalker had visited the street where Woods lived during the election campaign between June 2021 and September 2023.

In February, Wolverhampton Crown Court heard that Kaur’s actions had caused Woods – who suffers from anxiety – to have a “real fear” that the defendant might get too close to her at work, prompting her to increase her security measures at home and at work.

Kaur, from Walsall, pleaded guilty to stalking and was sentenced to 14 months in prison. The judge also imposed a restraining order banning her from contacting Woods and 14 other people and banning her from coming within 500 yards of the presenter’s home.

Horror facial injury

Just weeks before the start of the 2024 European Championships, Woods was hospitalised with a horrific facial injury sustained while on holiday with Collard. She was due to host the Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk fight on DAZN but was forced to pull out due to a bizarre incident in which her face was slashed around her eye.

She said on social media: “I just wanted to explain why I haven’t been watching TV for a while to be completely transparent and avoid speculation. Last weekend I had an accident at a holiday home. I was swinging a pillow and hit a large glass lampshade hanging from the ceiling above me. The lampshade shattered and injured my face and arms, but luckily missed my eye.”

“I’d like to thank a few people, first of all Adam, who was my hero that day, acted so quickly and hasn’t left me since, and his family, who looked after me when I was petrified with fear. And my agents Alex Maguire and Matthew Odonohue at CAA, who immediately sought out the best help.”

She continued: “To Dr. Yannis Alexandrides and his wonderful physician’s assistant Zuzanna at Hospital 111, who opened their emergency room and came on their days off, we thank them. They were so gentle and had already performed miracles that I did not believe the damage could be reduced any further.”

“It was a hell of a shock and I was a bit sad but I’m very glad it wasn’t worse,” Woods added later. “So a big thank you to my eyebrow too which took the brunt of it. I’m disappointed I won’t be able to cover the fight in Riyadh tomorrow but I wish the amazing TNT boxing team all the best. Be back soon xx.”

Woods returned to television to host TNT Sports’ coverage of the Champions League final between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund in June before heading off to the European Championships.
