Glass Animals say “Heat Waves” almost went to Rihanna

Dave Bayley, frontman of the Glass Animals, said their hit single “Heat Waves” almost went to pop star Rihanna.

In a new interview with The IndependentBayley spoke openly about his difficulties in being vulnerable in his music – including in his surprise hit “Heat Waves”.

He revealed to the magazine that it might have made the song’s release easier if it had been offered to another musician. He explained: “Initially, it felt too personal and vulnerable to do it myself, because the little secret in that song would be very, very closely tied to me. And that was quite scary. I was hoping it would be someone else’s song.”

Bayley further revealed that the band actually offered the song to pop star Rihanna. He said: “It got to the point where I sat in the Roc Nation office and played the song to her manager.”

“I ended up sending them parts of the song, but I’m grateful it didn’t go any further,” he continued, adding, “But at the same time, of course, I’m a huge fan – I would have loved it.”

Glass Animals recently announced a tour of the UK, Europe and the US, following the band’s announcement of the release of their highly anticipated fourth studio album, ‘I Love You So F***ing Much’, in April this year.

The UK shows begin on November 1st at the OVO Hydro Arena in Glasgow, followed by performances in Manchester (November 2nd), Nottingham (November 3rd), Cardiff (November 5th) and London (November 7th).
