Taylor Swift continues to reach new milestones, including historic sales of her latest album, “The Tortured Poets Department.”

The 34-year-old Grammy winner’s latest release, which performed in Milan, Italy over the weekend, topped the Billboard 200 chart for the 12th consecutive week ending July 20, Billboard said Sunday.

The album’s 12 weeks at the top spot since its April 19 release represents a personal record for the music superstar, whose previous releases, “1989” and “Fearless,” each debuted at number one for 11 weeks.

This also surpassed the previous record held by the late music legend Whitney Houston, whose second album “Whitney” was the longest-running record by a female artist, debuting at the top spot in 1987 and staying there for 11 weeks.

Houston’s album, which included the hit “I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me),” entered the Billboard charts the week of June 27, 1987, and remained at the top spot for 11 weeks, according to the outlet.

In the week ending July 11, The Tortured Poets Department sold a total of 163,000 album units in the US, according to statistics from Luminate.

Album sales rose 43 percent for the record, which topped the Billboard charts for the first time the week of May 4.

When it comes to records that have spent at least 12 weeks at the top of the charts, The Tortured Poets Department remains in rare company.

The others are “One Thing at a Time” by country singer Morgan Wallen, which stayed at number one for its first 12 weeks and is expected to remain at the top spot for a total of 19 weeks from 2023 to 2024.

According to Billboard, music icon Stevie Wonder’s 1976 album Songs in the Key of Life remained at the top spot for 13 consecutive weeks and spent a total of 14 weeks at the top spot between 1976 and 1977.

The outlet pointed out that since the advent of Luminate’s tracking technology in 1991, the number of albums debuting at number one has skyrocketed, as only six records had previously accomplished that feat, including the aforementioned efforts from Houston and Wonder.

Looking at similar records, Adele’s ’21’ was the last album by a female artist to spend at least 12 weeks at number one, as it held the top spot for a total of 24 consecutive weeks between 2011 and 2012.

The last album by a female artist to stay at the top spot for at least 12 consecutive weeks was the soundtrack to “Bodyguard” in 1992-1993.

Swift’s 12 weeks at the top of the charts also surpassed the previous record held by the late music legend Whitney Houston (pictured here in London in 1987).

The record focuses on Houston, who starred in the romantic drama alongside Kevin Costner, and features six tracks by the late artist, including her hit single “I Will Always Love You,” as well as hits such as “I’m Every Woman,” “I Have Nothing,” and “Run to You.”

The soundtrack stayed at number one for 13 consecutive weeks and 20 weeks overall.

For Swift, this week’s achievement marks her 81st week at the top of the charts, a record for a solo artist; the late Elvis Presley’s 67 weeks there.

According to the outlet, Swift and Jay-Z lead the way with 14 albums each, making them the most successful artists to ever release number one albums.
