Sam’s Club, the members-only retail wholesale club, allegedly requires its members to use its app to access the store and make purchases, according to one user.

For some members, this change is a step too far.

One customer expressed his frustration on social media, tweeting: “I guess Sam’s Club is going to start requiring people to use their app to crack down on credit card sharing soon, huh?”

“And honestly, I could just cancel my membership.

“That’s enough!”

It’s unclear if the user had to show their app to get in, but that’s not Sam’s Club’s official policy at this time.

The aim of this possible digital revolution is presumably to ensure that memberships are only used by those who have paid for them.

However, it is not known where the rumor came from.

Sam’s Club has not yet announced any such changes.

MEMBER BENEFITS COMING SOON

In a surprise move that drew widespread criticism, Sam’s Club recently announced changes to the benefits of its Plus membership, angering many loyal customers and prompting them to look for alternatives.

Sam’s Club charges delivery fees

Effective August 19, 2024, the Arkansas-based warehouse chain will stop offering free shipping on orders for Plus members and introduce a new requirement that a minimum order value of $50 be met to qualify for these benefits.

This change, which affects those who pay the $110 annual fee for Plus membership, was not well received.

Members who had previously enjoyed the convenience of free shipping and fast delivery expressed their frustration and disappointment when they learned of the impending policy change.

Many expressed their displeasure on social media platforms and online forums, some even threatening to switch to competitors, especially Costco.

One called the move “stupid,” while another advised the retailer to prepare for “backlash.”

“I love Sam’s – especially the app that lets you skip the checkout line when shopping. But as a Plus member, I’m not renewing,” wrote the X user.

“The new minimum order value for free shipping is a rip-off. Costco doesn’t charge me for shipping.

“You can’t raise prices without facing backlash. That’s all, no DMs.”

“@SamsClub already turned off auto-renew – free shipping won’t apply unless I spend $50. Dumb move Sams Club,” said another.

“I’m going to Costco,” vowed a third.

Meanwhile, a Sam’s Club customer is frustrated with the enforcement of membership rules because he feels they do not meet his expectations.

And Sam’s Club has a little-known policy that requires customers to pay an additional charge to shop at certain times.
