7-year-old shot dead on Chicago’s Near West Side – NBC Chicago

According to authorities, a seven-year-old child was shot dead in Chicago’s Near West Side neighborhood on Tuesday afternoon.

According to police, the shooting occurred shortly before 4 p.m. in the 2300 block of West Jackson Boulevard.

In a press conference Tuesday afternoon, CPD Supervisor Larry Snelling said the child suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was discovered lying on the ground at the above-mentioned location by officers responding to the incident.

According to police, the child was leaving the house to visit a nearby neighbor when he was hit by gunfire.

Arriving police officers performed life-saving measures on the child before he was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

No one is currently in custody. Snelling said police are combing the area to find more information about the shooter.

The child was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, authorities said.
