Millions of miles from home, hundreds of ships plunge into the stormy atmosphere of a hostile ice world. On board, an army of determined men and women prepare for the impending attack. They are an invasion force on an impossible mission: to destroy the devastating enemy weapon stationed below. Corporal Scott and his battalion are the vanguard, but the human forces are no match for their brutal alien opponents. Scott’s battalion is dead within moments. He is the only survivor. The landing force is destroyed, the battle is lost. Against overwhelming odds, Scott dares to do the unthinkable: get behind enemy lines, survive in the deadly landscape, evade capture by ruthless enemies, resist natural predators, confront human deserters, and complete the mission single-handedly. Encased in his battle armor, supported only by what he can carry, and driven by the wrath of the earth, Scott must accomplish alone what an entire army could not. Destroy the weapon. Return home.

The official launch is still months away, but fans attending SDCC this year can check out the series as Bad Idea is giving away a free ashtray during their panel on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. in Room 24ABC.

PLANET DEATH: The new comic from John Wick creator Derek Kolstad

In this science fiction epic, a lone soldier conquers an entire planet

The preview of the series looks like a classic sci-fi comic ripped from the pages of the classic Heavy metal or 2000 ADfor Giorello’s artwork is wonderfully reminiscent of the feverish depictions of Juan Giménez and Richard Corben. Kolstad highlights these influences and more, and the author’s enthusiasm is palpable:

Planet Death
is my love letter to all the comics and books I have read, films I have seen and games I have played – late into the night with a grin on my face… by
Hard boiled
and Ronin by Frank Miller to the films of Alistair MacLean like
The Guns of Navarone
And
Where eagles dare
about Bradbury, Asimov and Heinlein to games like
Starship
and everything in between. Some of my favorite stories are those that mix science fiction with elements of the war genre. From
Starship Troopers
To
Aliens
And
Edge of Tomorrow
. With
Planet Death
We’re taking that tradition and adding all the things we love about comics.

Co-author Robert Venditti shares Kolstad’s enthusiasm for the project and says: “I’ve written a lot of science fiction – but never from the perspective of a D-Day-style ground invasion.” The grim approach to science fiction warfare sounds novel, and it sounds like Planet Death will be an exciting action thriller in the tradition of science fiction masterpieces such as Aliens And Starship TroopersAccording to Venditti, it is also the greatest challenge the author has faced in his career: “I want to develop further with every project. Planet Death is larger in scale and scope than anything I have done before.”

Planet Death Continues Bad Idea’s unorthodox comic approach

Bad Idea has received a lot of press due to its unusual marketing and publishing strategies, as its comics are often published in limited editions and command high prices on the aftermarket. Therefore, the upcoming Planet Death The giveaway will likely become a coveted collector’s item. SDCC attendees will also see the entire creative team talk about the new series during the panel. According to Dinesh Shamdasani, CEO and CCO of Bad Idea, there will also be “a live event in honor of the book where no expense was spared.” Since this is the debut comic of John Wick Creator Derek Kolstad, Planet Death sounds like a comic you can’t miss.
