Michigan football target will opt for Wolverines BBQ soon after visit

It’s taken some time, but Michigan football has begun to build a quality recruiting class for 2025. The Wolverines completed their 16th commitment on Saturday, signing three-star wide receiver Phillip Wright, and could soon increase their haul again.

Wright is one of the lowest-ranked players in Michigan football’s 2025 class, but he has the talent to easily exceed his rating. LSU made a strong late push for him and Georgia was also in the running.

New secondary coach Lamar Morgan has so far landed some big fish in the safety position in the class of 2025: He has signed Ivan Taylor, a top-100 defensive back from Notre Dame, as well as Kainoa Winston, who is also one of the top-100 candidates.

Now Morgan has his eye on cornerback. The Wolverines have had some misses at the position recently, but Jayden Sanders has emerged as a top target in recent weeks. Sanders will make an official visit to Michigan football in late July for the annual recruiting BBQ.

That was a good sign for the Wolverines, but the 6-foot-2, 175-pound cornerback from Kilgore, Texas, also told Steve Wiltfong of On3.com that he would make a decision soon after his visit to Michigan.

The No. 317 prospect in the Class of 2025 is also considering Baylor, TCU, Vanderbilt and Oklahoma State. That doesn’t sound like a particularly impressive list, but Baylor just got Taz Williams, a four-star wide receiver who was once projected for Michigan football.

Baylor has NIL. The Wolverines have improved in that area, or at least have something to offer recruits. This visit at the end of the month feels like a chance to get the deal done, and with a decision looming in early August, it looks like another blue-chip signing is on the way.

On3’s prediction machine gives the Michigan football team a 93 percent chance of getting Sanders, who would be UM’s 14th blue chip in the 2025 class.
