Abraham Ancer scores the club throw of the year at LIV Golf Andalucia

Don’t tell Abraham Ancer that he doesn’t care about his game since joining LIV Golf.

The 33-year-old Mexican suffered a nervous breakdown on Sunday and let his emotions run wild after missing a crucial shot towards the end of his round at LIV Golf Andalucia in Valderrama, Spain.

Ancer, a member of the Fireballs team that held on to the lead in the team portion of the competition, did not reach the green on the fifth hole, his 17th hole of the day when he slowed down and landed his pitch in front of the green. That ultimately led to a costly bogey, but what happened next will make for spectacular shows: Ancer threw his club away in disgust and it probably traveled a greater distance than his ball. He is the clubhouse frontrunner for the best club throw of the year.

You can see it here.

Good marks for Ancer’s technique, but he forgot Tommy Bolt’s famous advice to always throw a club forward so you don’t have to go back – or in Ancer’s case, sideways – to retrieve it.

Ancer responded with a chip-in on the next hole and he and teammate David Puig helped the Fireballs win the first playoff in the team portion of the LIV competition.

This isn’t the first time Ancer has let his anger out this year. He showed his versatility as a club thrower with this two-handed, overhand tomahawk. But his most recent performance was still the best. There’s still almost half the year left to see if he can do even better.
