Iraq’s Justice Ministry denies secret executions and plans legal action against false reports

Shafaq News/ Iraqi Justice Ministry official spokesman Ahmed Laibi on Sunday denied reports of secret executions in Al-Hoot prison and said the ministry would take legal action against the website that published the misleading news.

Laibi stated: “The ministry condemns such statements and news that serve certain purposes.” He stressed that the ministry completely rejects the allegations and describes them as misleading and politically motivated attempts to deceive both national and international public opinion.

Laibi stressed that the website should have sought a statement or clarification from the ministry on these allegations instead of publishing unverified information. He reiterated that “the Iraqi Ministry of Justice adheres to the constitution and human rights standards in all its proceedings.”

He also stressed that the Prime Minister personally oversees efforts to strengthen human rights principles in correctional facilities and ensures the implementation of international humanitarian standards in the treatment of inmates. Laibi strongly denied the statements attributed to the Prime Minister in the published report.

Concluding his statement, Laibi said that the ministry would take legal action against the website and any other media outlets spreading similar false information.

He called on the professional national media to be objective and accurate in their reporting and assured that the ministry’s doors were open to journalistic inquiries.
