“What are you playing?”

“What are you playing?”

Love Island fans were seriously divided over the showrunners’ decision not to postpone the latest episode, which aired head-to-head with the live Euro 2024 final between England and Spain.

While viewers caught the first half of the thrilling finale on ITV1 and BBC One, they were then faced with a difficult decision. They had to decide whether to skip Love Island and watch it later, or miss the end of the football match.

For some fans, the decision was easy. Some admitted they were “bored of the game” and wanted to focus on the drama in the villa. Others, however, were more interested in the football final and preferred to stay with the game rather than follow the latest happenings in the villa.

However, many fans were disappointed that Love Island was not moved to 10pm like a previous England match. Especially since it was the final, some called for a change in schedule so that both events could be enjoyed live.

With Aftersun due to air at 10pm on Sundays as usual and Maya Jama as the presenter, there was no reason to delay the main show. Yet many fans argued that it should have happened anyway, with some even asking other football viewers for updates while they followed the island drama, the Mirror reports.

While some fans desperately urged Love Island to delay its broadcast, others joined the discussion and disagreed, stating that they were not worried about the game. One fan took to social media and pleaded: “Can you move Love Island to 10pm? Everyone is watching the Euro final.”

Another fan tweeted: “Move it to 10pm,” while a third expressed frustration, asking: “What are they playing?”

For some fans, the action in the villa should not compete with the big game

However, not everyone was of the same opinion. One spectator insisted: “No, we are not watching the European Championships,” and another chimed in: “The game made me sleepy.” The mood among the fans was mixed, with one admitting: “I don’t know if I want to watch the game or this stupid show.”

Another asked Love Island viewers for updates: “Whoever is watching please update us football fans on every little thing. Thank you for your service.” One particularly savvy fan boasted: “I have one eye on football and one on Love Island. Call it multitasking X.”

This debate arose following the announcement that the Islanders would be allowed to watch Sunday night’s football final. Traditionally, ITV bosses are keen to keep Love Island contestants in the dark about the outside world.

Despite earlier reports suggesting the Islanders would enjoy the game, there were no changes to the television schedule, leaving viewers torn between supporting the English team or sticking to their Love Island routine.

But this is not the first time: in 2020, when England reached the European Championship final against Italy, participants again had the opportunity to watch the game on a big screen.
