Former Michigan State University basketball star Travis Trice wins major award

From time to time I think about certain Michigan State University basketball players and the impact they had during their time in East Lansing. One player that often comes to mind is Travis Trice.

Trice is probably one of the most underrated players of the Tom Izzo era and was single-handedly responsible for leading the 2015 MSU team to the Final Four.

Everyone remembers the countless great shots Trice made, especially in his final season when he averaged over 15 points per game, but what was a superstar college career unfortunately never turned into a superstar NBA career.

That doesn’t mean he’s not a superstar wherever he plays professionally today.

Trice currently plays for Criollos de Caguas of the Baloncesto Superior Nacional in Puerto Rico, and it seems like there is no bigger superstar in that league. In fact, Trice just completed an MVP season in which he narrowly defeated former Ohio State Buckeye Jared Sullinger for the award.

In his MVP season, Trice averaged an impressive 21.3 points and 7.7 assists per game. And the plays he made every night were absurd. Just three weeks ago, Trice scored 39 points along with four rebounds and seven assists. I highly recommend you watch those highlights.

I know the league Trice plays in isn’t the NBA, but that doesn’t mean his accomplishments aren’t impressive. The guys he’s competing against every night are still true professionals, so being the best player in the league is incredibly impressive.

I doubt Trice will ever get another chance in the NBA due to his size and age, but that’s OK. He continues to make a name for himself and reminds us Michigan State fans every day of the greatness he showed at MSU.
