SB Nation reacts: Fans think Chris Sale is the Braves’ most deserving All-Star pitcher

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of MLB fans. All year long, we ask the most connected Atlanta Braves Fans and supporters across the country. Login hereto participate in the weekly surveys sent by email.

This week’s SB Nation Reacts question was which Atlanta Braves pitcher was most deserving of an All-Star nomination. Veteran left-hander Chris Sale won hands down with 56% of the vote. Fellow newcomer Reynaldo López came in second with 38%, while Max Fried finished a distant third.

There’s a good chance Sale and Lopez will both be selected if they continue to pitch well. I think Fried has an opportunity to get into the mix as well, and I’m a little shocked he only received such a small share of the vote. If you ignore the two poor starts earlier in the season, he was as good as anyone. That said, I think Sale is obviously the right choice, and he exceeded any expectations the Braves had for him for the 2024 season.

This week’s national questions revolved around the trade deadline. The first question was who is the best player available at the deadline. White Sox outfielder Luis Robert Jr. received 34% of the vote, while Mets first baseman Pete Alonso received 30%.

This may be a controversial opinion, but I think Alonso has a much better chance of moving than Robert. Robert is a supremely talented player who has control of the club, but has only played more than 100 games in a season once. While his contract is affordable, it’s not nothing, and the White Sox will no doubt want a lot in return. With so much control of the team, they also have the option to keep Robert and then consider offers again in the offseason. Alonso is a looming free agent and could be the difference maker for a club in the postseason or for a club trying to secure a playoff spot.

The second question was which team will start selling first. The White Sox were the top choice at 64%, with the Mets coming in second at 17%. The White Sox have already traded Dylan Cease, so you could technically say they have already started selling.

Thanks to everyone who voted. Let us know what you think in the comments below and we’ll be back next week.
