Rose McGowan speaks openly about the grief over the death of a fellow human being Charmed star Shannen Doherty at the age of 53.

“I can’t stop crying,” McGowan, 50, wrote in an Instagram comment on Sunday, July 14. “A world without Shannen Doherty is unimaginable.”

McGowan had responded to Jawbreaker Co-Star Julie Benzwho described Doherty’s death as “heartbreaking” in her own social media message.

Doherty died on Saturday, July 13, after a long battle with cancer, and her publicist confirmed the news a day later.

“It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after battling the disease for many years,” said the publicist Leslie Sloane told We weekly in a statement Sunday. “The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie. The family asks for their privacy during this time so they can grieve in peace.”

McGowan initially broke her silence about Doherty’s death – the two both played the Haliwell siblings in the television series “The WB” Charmed but did not appear on the show at the same time – via Instagram.

“Shannen Doherty had the heart of a lion. Passion for the craft is often mistakenly labeled as a problem. Shannen was passion,” she wrote. “I met her in the 90s and was impressed. To really get to know her later in life was a beautiful gift. This woman was fighting for life.”

McGowan added: “Shannen knew how to be a star because she had been one since she was a child. Her work ethic was inspiring until the end. Shannen’s great love for directing, acting, Holly (Marie Combs), her friends, her parents, her dog and her beloved fans was legendary. Our lives were intertwined in a unique way.”

Doherty, Combs, 50, and Alyssa Milan played the role of the Halliwell Witches in the first three seasons of Charmed. Doherty was fired before the fourth season after an alleged falling out with Milano, 51. (Milano has denied that she arranged Doherty’s firing.) She was replaced by McGowan, who played the siblings’ younger half-sister.

Since Charmed During filming, Doherty and McGowan developed a special friendship.

“We laughed at dark forces that wanted us to hate each other, but instead we chose love and respect,” McGowan concluded. “A soft-hearted swashbuckler like no other. An energy that will live on in hearts forever. May angels and God carry her to the holy kingdom where she will be healthy, young and fierce forever. Rest now warrior, we will never forget you, dear sister.”
