Top basketball target at Michigan State makes a great impression with scouts

Jordan Scott is a top priority for Tom Izzo and Michigan State’s 2025 recruiting class. Scott is a 6’7 small forward from Reston, Virginia. Scott is also ranked 51st in 247sports’ Top 100 Players rankings and is the ninth-ranked small forward.

247sports writer Travis Branham recently checked out Scott at the UA Next track in LakePoint, Georgia. After watching Scott, Branham made it clear that we should consider Scott as a long-term college basketball prospect.

Scott has the physical tools to be a great player not only in college but also in the NBA. “First, he has the physical tools, his mix of size, length and athleticism, but at the same time he has a thin and immature frame that will take time to continue to develop and grow,” Branham said.

Scott is more of a player who drives the ball to the basket than a shooter who moves through the zone on offense.

“Offensively, Scott had to be everywhere and do everything, from playing high post to break through zone defenses to flying blocks for jumpers to getting players out of isolation zones,” Branham said. “He was effective as a slasher, showed his potential as a shooter with polished footwork, but what impressed most in this performance was his vision, willingness as a passer and decision-making, constantly getting the ball to his teammates for easy shots.”

On defense, Scott’s size and wingspan give him the potential to be a top-notch perimeter defender. With his large wingspan, Scott played the center position on the UA Next circuit and was tough to beat.

“On defense, Scott was forced to play at the five and did some nice things there while staying engaged the whole time when a lot of players in that situation wouldn’t have been so comfortable being asked to guard the zone,” Branham said.

Jordan Scott has been around Michigan State, Virginia Tech and Maryland. According to Branham, only one member of the team was there to see him, and that was a Michigan State assistant. If Izzo and his staff can get him in the green and white, it would be a tremendous addition to the 2025 recruiting class.
