‘I told him…’: United fans will be delighted with what was said between Zirkzee and Mainoo after Euro meeting

Manchester United officially announced the arrival of Joshua Zirkzee at the club this afternoon, making him the first signing of the summer and of the INEOS era.

The striker joins from Bologna and has signed a five-year contract with an option for a further season. He was earmarked as a replacement for Rasmus Hojlund’s goalscoring role after Anthony Martial left the club.

On Wednesday night, Zirkzee faced two of his new teammates, Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw, as his home country, the Netherlands, faced England in the semi-finals of Euro 2024. Of course, the Three Lions were ultimately successful thanks to Ollie Watkins’ clear 90th-minute winner, but United’s newest signing still took the time to introduce himself to Mainoo after the game.

A picture of the pair’s exchange quickly made the rounds on social media, as Zirkzee’s move was neither confirmed nor finalized at the time.

His fans speculated about what was said – but the guessing game is over, because the Dutchman has now revealed the details of his short conversation with Mainoo.

“He (Mainoo) asked me if I was coming… I said see you soon after the final!” Zirkzee told the club media in a newly released clip.
