Michigan State Basketball is looking for an interesting guard for 2025

In January of this year, Michigan State’s basketball team lost one of its top targets for the class of 2025. Jeremiah Fears, the younger brother of current Spartan Jeremy Fears Jr., announced his commitment to Illinois.

At the time, it was a heartbreaking loss because the younger Fears is just as talented as Jeremy Fears and MSU should have him playing regularly.

However, his commitment to Illinois did not last, as Fears withdrew his commitment to the Illini on July 1. Now, just a few weeks later, it is reported that Michigan State and Tom Izzo are among the schools courting Fears the hardest.

Jeremiah Fears is a four-star guard who was originally in the class of 2025. According to 247Sports’ composite rankings, he is the No. 32 player in the country, as well as the No. 6 player at his position and the No. 2 player from Arizona.

Michigan State was heavily involved in Fear’s initial recruitment, even being one of his finalists before he chose Illinois, so it’s really no surprise that Izzo and MSU are back in the mix.

According to HS Top Recruits on Twitter, in addition to Michigan State, Arkansas, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Michigan and USC have recently had contact with Fears.

There is only one problem with MSU’s recruitment right now: Fears wants to be transferred to the 2024 class. And as it stands today, Michigan State has no scholarships available for the upcoming season.

While this could eliminate MSU from the race for Fears, there is still a chance they can convince him to stay in the 2025 class and join the Spartans’ recruiting class for next season. Right now, that seems to be the only chance Michigan State has with this recruitment, as the roster for the upcoming season is set in stone.

So honestly, I wouldn’t get my hopes up too much with this recruiting. Crazier things have happened with recruiting, but we’ll just have to be patient and see how it pans out.
