Blackpink singer makes Hot 100 history with her new hit single

Blackpink star Lisa is back! The singer’s new solo hit “Rockstar” is appearing in the charts all over the world, including in the USA, where she places the hit on half a dozen charts. The single makes it into the Hot 100 and helps Lisa make history with her entry.

“Rockstar” is Lisa’s third solo hit on the Hot 100, where it opens at number 70. With another placement on the list, she breaks a tie and takes the number one spot on the list. Billboard Ranking of the most consumed songs in the US among female solo artists known for their K-pop productions.

Lisa was born in Thailand but began her music career in South Korea. She rose to fame and success in the K-pop genre, and much of her work can be clearly categorized as such.

She first entered the Hot 100 in September 2021, when “Lalisa” debuted and peaked at number 84. She returned before the end of the year with “Money,” released at the same time as the earlier win. That song spent two frames on the chart but only climbed to number 90.

Before “Rockstar,” Lisa was tied with South Korean musician CL for that spot in the history books, scoring two Hot 100 hits nearly a decade ago, when it was still incredibly rare for artists from the Asian country to find success in America.

CL debuted on the Hot 100 alongside Psy. She was featured on his single “Daddy,” which peaked at No. 97. In 2016, months after the success of “Daddy,” her own song “Lifted” spent a frame at No. 94.

Three other solo K-pop musicians have placed songs on the Hot 100 charts. Blackpink colleagues Jennie and Rosé as well as Youjeen have only made it onto the list with one song so far.

As a group, Blackpink has had nine different tracks enter the Hot 100. They have the second-most charting appearances of any South Korean and K-pop music act, trailing only BTS.
