Cary Fukunaga has been quietly filming a foodie documentary series for Apple TV+ — World of Reel

It’s been nearly three years since allegations were made against Cary Fukunaga, and he hasn’t made a film since No Time to Die (2021).

In April and May 2022, three women accused Fukunaga of various forms of sexual harassment, including “pursuing relationships with them” on the set of Masters of Air. Then, on May 31, 2022, Rolling Stone added new allegations via “nearly a dozen sources” that Fukunaga had harassed younger women on set.

Masters of Air premiered on Apple TV earlier this year without Fukunaga’s name mentioned in promotional material. Reviews were decent, but something has to be said about how the streamer went to great lengths to cover up its involvement in the series.

Fukunaga is currently attempting a comeback. In May it was announced that he would direct ’77 Blackout’ starring Tom Hardy and Mahershala Ali, and although I’m told the film is still a long way from production, this can definitely be seen as a positive for Fukunaga’s comeback attempt.

Now we see Apple announcing that Fukunaga’s documentary series, omnivorewill premiere on July 19. It looks like “food porn” and there is no mention of Fukunaga’s involvement. I would imagine the film was greenlit in early 2022, just before the allegations came out. Apple hasn’t rejected it though, it will definitely be shown.

Before these allegations, Fukanaga had his breakout role as a high-profile director in the first season of True Detective. He also directed the critically acclaimed Beasts of No Nation, a popular Netflix series, Manic, and, as mentioned, Daniel Craig’s final Bond film. He had quite a promising future ahead of him.
