The eagerly awaited Twisters The sequel may hit theaters on July 19, but before you watch the disaster movie’s fictional tornadoes, you can do a little real-life storm chasing yourself — from the comfort of your couch, of course — with Discovery’s new six-part miniseries. In the eye of the storm.
The series premieres tonight, Sunday, July 14, at 10 p.m. Eastern Time on the Discovery Channel and, according to Warner Bros. Discovery, features “firsthand accounts and eyewitness footage of dangerous near misses from natural disasters.” The first episode, “Trapped in a Twister,” follows tornado watchers who become dangerously trapped in the middle of a rare tornado outbreak in the Midwest.
Other wild weather events explored on the show include megastorms like Hurricane Ida in 2021 and the Maui wildfires in 2023, captured by viewers who “were in the wrong place at the right time and bravely held up their camera phones to document their experiences.”
“In the eye of the storm will premiere during Shark Week – our biggest annual programming event – and will captivate audiences with incredible accounts of near-death experiences at the hands of nature’s most powerful forces,” said Howard Lee, President of Discovery Networks. “We’ll witness how people react in real life-or-death situations as they unfold, and we’ll experience the sheer intensity of never-before-seen personal footage. It’s an awe-inspiring look at the power of Mother Nature and the courage and resilience of humanity.”
